A30 Bridge, London, UK

LSY Engineering Consultants Ltd was appointed by Cadent Gas Ltd to undertake structural engineering services associated with the upgrading of gas infrastructure located within an existing road bridge on the A30, London. The project involved the inspection and assessment of existing gas chambers, valves, and associated pipework located within and beneath the bridge structure. In addition, new gas pipe connections required the construction of access shafts ranging from 3.5m to 4.2m deep, necessitating careful consideration of excavation support and temporary works requirements. Our scope included structural surveys, condition assessments, temporary works evaluations, and recommendations to support the safe delivery of the proposed gas infrastructure improvements.

The project involved the removal of several loadbearing structural walls at basement level and the formation of new openings through existing vault structures as part of the wider redevelopment works. LSY's commission was to develop temporary works solutions that would safely support the existing structure during the demolition and alteration phases.

LSY Engineering Consultants was appointed by the groundworks contractor to provide temporary works design services for the structural upgrade of the Grade I Listed Brighton Dome, one of the UK's most significant cultural and performing arts venues. Located within the prestigious Royal Pavilion Estate in the centre of Brighton, the Regency-era building required the construction of a new basement area beneath the auditorium to create a level floor arrangement that would enhance the venue's functionality and accessibility. Our scope included the design of underpinning works, temporary excavation support systems, sheet piling arrangements, and associated temporary works required to facilitate the basement formation safely within the existing historic structure.

LSY Engineering Consultants Ltd was appointed to provide full structural engineering and Building Control design services for the refurbishment of a property in Brompton Road, a four-storey mixed-use building located within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The project involved a comprehensive programme of structural alterations and upgrades, including the assessment and strengthening of existing structural elements, the design of new steelwork, floor strengthening works, chimney support arrangements, lintel designs for new openings, and the integration of new composite floor construction. Our involvement covered RIBA Stages 4 and 5, from detailed structural assessment through to construction support and Building Control approval.

We were appointed by our developer client as lead structural engineers on the complex refurbishment of a mixed-use development in London. Our brief was to convert a basement of existing vaults into open-plan rooms by removing three internal walls, installing steel frames and lowering the vaults by 1.2m. LSY managed the project from concept to construction with a range of services, including civil and structural design, construction drawings, underpinning sequence design, steel fabrication connection design and site supervision.

Dunkeld, Scotland, UK

LSY Engineering Consultants Ltd was appointed as Temporary Works Engineer and Contractor's Engineering Manager (CEM) Coordinator for the upgrade and installation of an Intermediate Pressure (IP) Gas Pipeline adjacent to an operational Network Rail tunnel in Scotland. The works formed part of a critical infrastructure upgrade located along one of Scotland's principal rail corridors between Edinburgh and Inverness. Due to the operational requirements of the railway network, construction activities could only be undertaken during restricted overnight possession periods between 23:00 and 05:00. Our role included the design of temporary protective barrier systems to safeguard the railway infrastructure during the works, coordination of engineering approvals, and management of the temporary works process in accordance with Network Rail requirements.

LSY Engineering Consultants Ltd was appointed as lead Temporary Works Engineers for the refurbishment and extension of an existing 4no.storey Grade I listed building in Central London. The project comprised an extensive programme of refurbishment works, including a basement extension, new swimming pool installation, roof extension, and significant structural alterations throughout the existing building. Given the scale and complexity of the development, temporary works played a critical role in ensuring the stability of both the building and neighbouring properties throughout construction. Our appointment included the design, coordination, and inspection of numerous temporary works elements, including: Basement wall propping Hoarding design Masonry façade retention systems Needling arrangements Scaffold support designs Shaft excavation support structures Swimming pool support arrangements Temporary propping systems Underpinning support systems In addition, LSY provided BIM coordination, attended weekly design team meetings, and undertook regular site inspections throughout the project.
